Eagle Ravens Love Birds:
The Eagle and Raven are the two major moiety or tribe delineations in Southeast Native culture. The potlatch celebration was often one of reincarnation, where the Ravens would host the Eagles and later the Eagles would return the favor with great gift-giving and ceremony in another potlatch. Eagles were not supposed to marry Eagles and Ravens were not supposed to marry Ravens. This was their way of keeping bloodlines pure. Consequently, the term love birds was derived.
