Eugene Solovyov

Co-owner and creator

Eugene Solovyov was born in the former Soviet Union and lived there until he was eleven when his parents became dissidents for creating a publishing press out of their apartment and were forced out of Russia. Eugene spent some time in Europe until he eventually landed in New York. Eugene attended Georgetown University where he received his bachelors degree and then made his way to Juneau, Alaska. While working for a small art gallery he fell in love with Alaskan art and moved to Sitka with his partner to create the Sitka Rose Gallery.

Barbara Kendall

Co-owner and creator

Barbara is from Oakland, California where she spent her youth, she received her psychology degree from Davis. She then moved to Seldovia, Alaska to work gutting fish for a summer until she got a job at a local art gallery in Juneau. While working in the art gallery she discovered her love of the land and the Alaska Native cultures. Her and Eugene eventually met and moved to Sitka, Alaska to open the Sitka Rose Gallery in 1993. Barbara grew passionate about art and traveled throughout all of Alaska to find the very best art the state has to offer.

Julian Solovyov

Website Manager

Born in Sitka, Alaska Julian has spent his entire childhood surrounded by Alaskan cultures and arts. Growing a deep passion for the arts over the years he worked as a sales associate within the gallery for a few summers before trying his hand at commercial fishing and contracting. 24 now Julian is a real estate professional in Bellingham, WA while managing the website on the side.
